Much like garage conversions, loft conversions take an often under-utilised or totally ignored part of a property and transforms it into something special. After just a few months, many clients find themselves asking the question: “how did we ever do without this space?” Property owners in and around areas such as Cheam, Epsom, New Malden and Wimbledon use their newly overhauled attics for everything from home offices, to cosy TV rooms, extra bedrooms, master bathrooms and studio spaces. What will you use yours for?
Egan Builders Ltd boasts over 50 years of experience transforming lofts into a fully integrated, essential part of the home, working to briefs and developing our clients’ ideas. Every aspect of the project, from structural work, to the installation of electric and plumbing, and decorative touches that separate our work from the rank and file, is managed in house. It’s our meticulous project management capabilities which ensures work is completed on time and within budget, and that a tidy environment is maintained at all times. Respect, transparency, and a commitment to exceptional workmanship are three things that form the philosophy at our time served building company.
Roof Light Conversion – As the name suggests, these loft conversions involve adding roof lights into your attic space to provide it with ventilation and adequate lighting. They’re only suitable if your loft is already spacious enough and doesn’t require structural alteration to carve out more room. Of course there’s more to it than just putting in windows and calling it a day, as our builders will need to decorate and ensure that the right infrastructure is present, alongside other tasks to ensure the finished space is fully fit for purpose and looks its very best. Big benefits of roof light loft conversions are their affordability, timeframe to completion, and the fact planning permission often isn’t required.
Dormer Loft Conversions – But unfortunately, not all properties around Cheam, Epsom, New Malden and Wimbledon have attics that are already prepared for conversion due to current spatial limitations. This is where the trusty dormer shines, as it sees our builders create a flat roof which extends outward from the slope of your existing one, creating a box shape. While it doesn’t lead to a dramatic shift in roof structure, it does create lots of extra headroom and space to use as you see fit. In many cases, you won’t even need planning permission, as they often fallen under permitted development.
Hip to Gable Loft Conversions – If you live in a property with a free sloping side roof, consider hip to gable loft conversions. These extend the sloping “hip” at the side of your home up and out, creating a “gable” side wall. They can create an impressive amount of space, and are often combined with rear dormers to really squeeze every square inch possible out of the project.
Mansard Loft Conversions – The most comprehensive and radical of styles, mansard loft conversions see the entire roof shape altered until the structure is almost vertical, as opposed to sloping. But don’t be put off by the amount of work involved, they can add an impressive amount of space to an Epsom, Cheam, New Malden or Wimbledon property, and often fit in with the current architectural style of the property better than a dormer or hip to gable extension. With a mansard, you can expect lots of space, lots of natural light, and almost limitless possibilities for end use.
If you do require planning permission for loft conversions, our building company is here to help. We have a track record of securing the green light from local authorities without having to make sweeping compromises.
